I know it’s only rock and roll but I like it.

Hello
I am researching cigarette packets from late 1980′s for a theatre play. From what I can gather so far Player’s no.6 and Embassy and Barclay’s were still big in the 80′s and also possibly Gold Bond for a cheaper option (which is what I need essentially) but I can’t seem to find what the packaging looked like later than 1970′s. I stumbled across your photos and was just wondering if you may have any ideas? Would really appreciate it if you could help me. Like the idea by the way, good photos!
Cheers
Sofia
Sofia, Sorry I have no idea – my collecting phase ended in the early 70s, but the hoarding period continues. I suspect the packaging might have contained health warnings – such solecisms in a period drama would get the nerds like me writing in – a bit like putting a postcode on a letter in the 1950s.
there is a packaging museum in Gloucester.
If you want to write a play in the 1966-70 though, you are in luck with your smoking perquisites.
Thank you for sharing your photo! This photograph appears in a NowPublic news story: Loud music makes people drink faster.

Topical – given the date!
Lovely b&w, great jet black background, strong light subject but still enough detail to see the ridges on the paper and detail in the ash. Nice one.
Great shot, very crisp. And appropriate tags
